VIOLENCE IN PROSTITUTION Prostitution is not a victimless crime, and those in it do not enjoy prostitution. Here are some articles that describe what is wrong with decriminalization for those in it, and which summarize some of the racist and sexist violence aimed at those who are most vulnerable among us.
Opponents of Prop K contend that decriminalizing Prostitution in San Francisco will not increase human trafficking. However, many experts who work with women in and out of prostitution from the District Attorney’s office, to social services, to educators/researchers, to survivors, say that this particular model of “decriminalizing” will be like “rolling out the red carpet for pimps and traffickers.”
Proponents of Prop K say that since the California legislation to end human trafficking was passed, their have been no convictions for human trafficking. There have been convictions. And many of these cases have gone to federal prosecutors because of the work done by local San Francisco advocates and enforcement.
